Nau mai, haere mai, tautī mai ki Te Tiri O Te Moana.
The Antarctic Science Platform is pleased welcome Dr Daniel Hikuroa to the team.
Dan, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, has been appointed to the Platform’s Steering Group.
He also has Antarctic field experience, having led a deep field geology mapping expedition for the British Antarctic Survey.
The Steering Group provides independent oversight of the strategic direction and performance of the Platform, like a Board of Directors.
Steering Group Chair Gillian Wratt says he brings a wealth of knowledge in weaving Mātauranga Māori into science and environmental decision making to the team.
“This experience will be invaluable in helping the Platform strengthen partnerships with Iwi, increasing Māori representation in our science teams and integrating Te Ao Māori into the research, she says.
Dr Dan Hikuroa says “I look forward to and am excited to work with the team to realise the aspirations of the Platform, bringing my personal Antarctic experience as well as my understanding of how we can weave mātauranga and science”.
