It is with heavy hearts that we have heard the news of Prof Craig Cary’s passing. Many of us are mourning a colleague, a mentor, and a friend.
Craig’s dedication to understanding the mysteries of our planet knew no bounds, and his contributions to science leave an indelible mark. His impact reaches beyond academia and research. He was a people person, in turns gregarious or contrary, always generous with his warmth and intellect.
We are grateful for Craig’s contribution to the Antarctic Science Platform’s ecosystems research and his ability to push the boundaries of technology with invention. He will be counting on us to maintain momentum. May his spirit of exploration and discovery continue to inspire us all in our research endeavors.
We are honoured to include a tribute from The University of Waikato's Sandy Morrison, Joint Chair of our Kāhui Māori and a Steering Group Director:
Kei te hoa, Craig, ko koe tēnei ka rere tahi me te koekoeā rāua ko te pīpīwharaaroa, ka wehe tahi me te tuna heke i a Poutū-te -rangi ka ara nei ākuanei.
