Check out this new research published in The Cryosphere here. It identifies potential tipping points for irreversible loss of the West Antarctic Ice sheet (WAIS) in the Amundsen Sea region. This is what Project 1 of the Antarctic Science Platform is trying to understand in the Ross Sea Sector of the WAIS. Both regions may responded quite differently in the past, and may do in the future. Knowing this will be important for predicting future sea-level rise.
