Fund to foster New Zealand and Australian collaboration

New Zealand’s Antarctic Science Platform (ASP) and Australia’s Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future (SAEF) are pleased to open a call for proposals to conduct cooperative research activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean.

The aim of the ASP & SAEF Collaboration fund is to foster and reinforce innovative collaboration between Australia and New Zealand and notably involving ECRs in ASP and / or SAEF.

In 2024, AU$20,000 in research funding is available.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applications are restricted to ASP and SAEF, with at least one of the applicants being an ECR* (see definition of ECR for the purposes of this fund in the attached documents)
  • Applications must involve a joint application between a SAEF and an ASP member.
  • Funding to support innovative, collaborative science.
  • This opportunity excludes field access.

Funding requests per application:

  • Maximum request: AU$10,000
  • Only two awards will be made; requests substantially below AU$10,000 will be ineligible
  • One award will be made to a SAEF lead, one to an ASP lead
  • Funds to be spent within 12 months of award
