Sarah Bury

PhD

Marine Biogeochemist/Ecologist

NIWA

Dr Sarah Bury is a Principal Research Scientist and Environmental Stable Isotope Facility Manager with a research background using stable isotopes to study marine biogeochemistry and ecology. Her interdisciplinary background provides expertise in phytoplankton primary productivity, cycling and fluxes of nutrients, ecosystem structure and function, trophic ecology, and marine mammal diet and movements.

In the Antarctic Science Platform, Sarah will contribute to estimates of primary productivity and nutrient recycling, and will provide stable isotope data to enhance understanding of top predator trophic ecology and improve whole ecosystem modelling outputs. These are important steps in identifying ecosystem resilience to environmental change and for assessing the effectiveness of the Ross Sea Marine Protected Area.
