Associate Professor Michelle LaRue’s research focus is on Antarctic marine science. She uses interdisciplinary tools, such as GIS and high-resolution satellite imagery, to study spatial and population dynamics of penguins, seals and cougars - species facing substantial conservation challenges as both the physical and social environments change across the world.
In the Antarctic Science Platform, Michelle is learning about how seals in the Ross Sea have been doing over the past ten years; what environmental conditions cause instability in their populations; and how these seals are likely to do in the future with a constantly changing environment.
