Josephine Frazer is a Masters student working on the reconstruction of glacial-interglacial sea surface conditions in the New Zealand sector of the Southern Ocean. She is using microfossils and geochemical techniques on 11 short sediment cores, collected along a 170°W latitudinal transect of the Southern Ocean, to create Quaternary sea surface temperature and productivity records.
The aim is to use these records to reconstruct ocean front behaviour during the last deglaciation, providing insights into how carbon storage has changed.
