Professor Ian Hawes’ research specialty is ecological aspects of aquatic photosynthesis, both planktonic and benthic. This extends from optics to trophic interactions, in marine and freshwater systems, to inform management and restoration of aquatic systems.
In the Antarctic Science Platform, Ian’s research focus is on understanding change in Ross Sea Region inland and coastal marine ecosystems. He is the Programme Leader: Ecosystem Dynamics (Project 3, Project 4) and is Chief Scientist for the Coastal Biodiversity Voyage.
