Dr Gemma Brett is a postdoctoral research fellow at Gateway Antarctica, University of Canterbury. Her research focuses on interactions between land ice, sea ice, and the ocean on the Antarctic coastline, using a combined approach that bridges spatial scales from geophysical field observations to satellite remote sensing.
In the Antarctic Science Platform, Gemma is developing electromagnetic induction (EM) and satellite altimetry techniques to assess fast ice and sub-ice platelet layer with respect to supercooled ice shelf water circulation in Terra Nova Bay. In collaboration with KOPRI scientists, this project also aims to better understand the sub-ice platelet layer as a biological habitat.
