Dr Craig Stewart designs, builds, deploys and retrieves deep-sea moorings to measure ocean currents, temperature and salinity. He uses the data from the interface between floating ice and sea water beneath to analyse the rate of basal melting of ice shelves, and its impact on ocean circulation.

In the Antarctic Science Platform, Craig’s research focus is on ice-ocean interactions beneath ice shelves and understanding the Ross Sea polynya.
